After an amazing weekend at the American Cancer Society Mid-South Headquarters, I'm committed more than ever to funding research and all the things needed to finding a cure for cancer. Most cancers are preventable, but we need to get the word out. There is a group called the ACS Cancer Action Network (or ACS CAN) and they are the friends who STAND up on THE HILL and keep the decision makers straight. They are making budget cuts again and cancer research along with the auxiliary medical things that affect us are on the line. We can make a difference! Please read below about how you can get involved. (BTW, I have a few ideas of things that we could cut....that aren't saving lives!)
![]() We've all heard it, friends. Congress has created a “supercommittee” whose job is to find more than one trillion dollars in cuts to the budget. And, they’ve re-started work on a budget for next year that will cut billions. But, what about things like cancer research and early detection programs that are working -- that are saving lives? Who will protect such lifesaving funding from this mandate for cuts? Friends, it's up to us. It's up to you and me and volunteers just like you across the nation, working together with ACS CAN to ensure that the voice of cancer patients is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill. In just one minute - yes, only one minute - you can do three things to make sure we're all ready to stand up and fight for cancer patients. Can you spare one minute right now to help us continue saving lives from cancer? www.acscan.org/1minute We know that nearly half of all cancer deaths could be prevented through prevention and early detection. We know that research can eliminate suffering and death from cancer. And we know the impact of significant cuts on American lives could be devastating. But what we don't know yet is if Congress is ready to stand up and fight for this lifesaving funding. These are tough budget times for our country and some cuts do need to be made, but it shouldn’t be to the research and prevention programs that are saving lives from cancer every day. Please take one minute right now. It's easy, quick and doesn't cost you a penny. But the lives you can save - men, women and children - are priceless. www.acscan.org/1minute Thank you, Brian Rubenstein Associate Director, Grassroots at ACS CAN P.S. We're hearing that a key U.S. Senate committee might vote on a budget as early as next week. So, please act now. |
